Career Services
Students and alumni can take advantage of a variety of career services at SMA including career counseling/coaching sessions, resume and cover letter critiques, SMA-JOBS: the weekly employment eNewsletter, career workshops and alumni panels. The career services program is coordinated by Peg Cheng, Career Services Coordinator. Some of the highlights from this year include:
- SMA Alumni Directory
-
The SMA Alumni Directory was published and distributed in Fall 2000 to be used as a career networking resource by SMA alumni and students. The directory shows the significant presence that SMA alumni have in the marine affairs and environmental fields.
- First Annual SMA Career Social
-
SMA held its first Career Social on May 15, 2001. Fifty alumni, students and faculty gathered at the University of Washington's Waterfront Activities Center to eat, drink, see old friends, meet new friends, network and trade career advice. The evening began with a welcome address from Director Marc Hershman. The alumni and students then played the Career Brain Dump Game facilitated by Peg Cheng. During the game, the students asked the alumni many interesting and provocative questions about their careers. The alumni answered with thoughtful, helpful and sometimes comical career advice and tips. The night ended on a fun note with a slew of door prizes. Due to its success, SMA plans on having a Career Social every spring.
