The School of Marine Affairs includes many distinguished and outstanding faculty members. The following is a brief selection of their achievements for the 2000 - 2001 time period.
Professor Marc J. Hershman was appointed to the U.S. Commission on Ocean Policy by President George W. Bush.
Professor Craig Allen was appointed as an Advisor to the U.S. deleation to the International Maritime Organization's Legal Committee.
Professor Dave Fluharty was re-appointed to a third and final three-year term as a member of the North Pacific Fisheries Management Council, the leading fisheries management organization for US waters surrounding Alaska.
Professor Andrea Copping, Affiliate Associate Professor in SMA and Assistant Director Washington Sea Grant Program, was elected chair of the Northwest Straits Commission, which oversees the development of marine protected areas in the waters of the Straits of Juan de Fuca and the San Juan Islands.
Professor Ed Miles was elected to the Board of Trustees, H. John Heinz III, Center for Science, Economics and the Environment, Washington, D.C.
Professor Bob Goodwin, Affiliate Associate Professor in SMA and Senior Coastal Resource Specialist, Washington Sea Grant Program, organized and launched the Cascadia Chapter of the Coastal Society. He now chairs the Chapter, and for his efforts received the President's award for outstanding service from The Coastal Society.
