Books, Journals, Newsletters, Working Papers
The faculty and professional staff at SMA are active in research and writing. The following lists the noteworthy, larger scale achievements over the past year. Table 3 lists The Working Paper Series at SMA which includes contributions from many of the faculty, staff and Visiting Scholars since January, 2000.
Professor Ed Miles, along with many colleagues, published Environmental Regime Effectiveness: Confronting Theory with Evidence, to be released in Fall 2001, by MIT Press, Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Professor Ed Miles and Dr. Amy Snover (first authors), and colleagues won the prestigious Bogess award for the best paper of the year in the American Water Resources Association Journal. The title of the paper is "Pacific Northwest Regional Assessment: The Impacts of Climate Variability and Change on the Water Resources of the Columbia Basin".
Coastal Management journal has had its editorial offices at SMA since 1976. Over the past year, Volume 29 was produced, containing a wide range of papers dealing with hazards mitigation, recreation and cultural resources, estuaries and wetlands, planning and conflict reduction. The student board of the journal (consisting of appointed SMA students) publishes papers submitted by graduate students from academic institutions throughout the world. Professor Marc J. Hershman is Editor-in-chief of the journal. Professors David Fluharty, Patrick Christie, Alyn Duxbury and Dr. Katherine Wellman are Associate Editors.
MPA News is published monthly and circulated throughout the world. MPA News reports on recent developments in the design and implementation of coastal and ocean marine protected areas. Editorial offices are at SMA. Founder of the newsletter is Mr. John Davis, MMA Candidate. The board of the newsletter includes Professors David Fluharty and Terrie Klinger. MPA News recently received a substantial grant from the David and Lucille Packard Foundation.
