SMA students have an impressive track record of securing internships and awards. We're proud to acknowledge their accomplishments.
Andy Bohlander received an internship with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
Cristen Don received an internship with The Whale Museum.
Amy Eckstein received an internship with Odyssey, the Maritime Discovery Center.
Becky Ellis serves as the Assistant to the Editor-in-Chief for the Coastal Management Journal.
Becky Ellis was also awarded the 2002 Alan Blankenship Memorial Scholarship for her meritorious studies in marine tourism and recreation.
Kim Engie received an internship with Evergreen Funding Consultants.
Jennifer Hernandez received an internship with Snohomish County Public Works, Surface Water Management.
Lauren Mark received an internship with Washington Sea Grant.
Evan Matthews received two internships: one with Foss Environmental and one with the Port of Seattle.
Evan Matthews was also awarded the Wedell O. Foss Fellowship for his outstanding academic record and work in maritime studies.
Ross McDonald received an internship with Odyssey, the Maritime Discovery Center, for the second year in a row. He also later received an internship with Foss Environmental.
Sunita Nanda finished her internship with the Port of Anacortes and continued with them as an independent consultant while she finished her thesis.
Elizabeth Petras received an internship with the Marine Conservation Biology Institute. She also later received an internship with the magazine, Conservation in Practice.
Mark Stamey received the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory Fellowship with the Battelle Marine Science Division.
Monika Thiele received an internship with Conservation International, based in Washington, DC.
Chris Woodley won the 1999-2000 McKernan Award for his outstanding thesis titled, "Developing Regional Strategies in Fishing Vessel Safety: A Review of the Commercial Fishing Industry Vessel Safety Act of 1988 and the Impacts of Fishery Resource Management upon Safety in the Bering Sea/Aleutian Island Pollock and Crab Fisheries."
