Development Funds

The Funds below are currently available to assist students. SMA is fortunate to have other programmatic funds at its disposal, notably the Hewlett Endowment for Environmental and Marine Affairs. The Hewlett fund supports special projects and programs of unit-wide significance.

The McKernan Fund, named for the SMA's first director, Donald L. McKernan, supports the McKernan Thesis Prize presented to a student for the year's most outstanding thesis. The fund also supports students and faculty pursuing unique educational and research opportunities, and special events for the professional development of students and alumni.

The Wendy Graham Scholarship, established in honor of the late Wendy Graham, 1989 graduate and former senior environmental policy analyst at Exponent, provides awards to meritorious students in need of travel funds to present their research at a professional conference.

The Wedell O. Foss Fellowship, established by Sidney and Barbara Campbell in honor of Wedell O. Foss, a pioneer in the maritime industry, supports outstanding students pursuing maritime studies as they research and write their master's theses.

The Sidney and Barbara Campbell Maritime Studies Endowment, established in honor of the late Sidney D. and Barbara Foss Campbell of the Foss Maritime Company, supports students pursuing careers in the maritime field

The Student Fellowship Endowment was established with gifts from a consortium of faculty, and is matched by the Microsoft Corporation, to provide continuing support for students while they pursue their educational goals at the School of Marine Affairs.
