Publications and Working Papers
The faculty and professional staff at SMA are active in research and writing. Table 2 lists The Working Paper Series at SMA, which includes contributions from many of the faculty, staff and visiting scholars since January 2001. Most of these papers have been submitted to such refereed journals as Environmental Management, International Journal of Maritime Economics, Risk Analysis and Coastal Management. SMA houses the editorial offices of two academic publications:
Coastal Management is a peer-reviewed journal published by Taylor and Francis. The journal has had its editorial offices at SMA since 1976. Over the past year, Volume 31 was produced, containing a wide range of papers dealing with such topics as marine protected area economics, government capacity building, remote sensing and hazard planning. The student board of the journal publishes papers submitted by graduate students from academic institutions throughout the world. Professor Marc J. Hershman is editor-in-chief of the journal. Professors David Fluharty, Patrick Christie, Alyn Duxbury, Research Associate Beth Bryant, and SMA alumna Dr. Katherine Wellman are Associate Editors.
MPA News is published monthly and circulated in more than 80 countries throughout the world. MPA News reports on recent developments in the design and implementation of coastal and marine protected areas. Editorial offices are at SMA. John Davis, MMA 2001, is founder and editor of the newsletter. The board of the newsletter includes Professors David Fluharty and Patrick Christie. MPA News recently received a substantial grant from the David and Lucille Packard Foundation.
