Additional Background

Beth is currently managing the NEPA Compliance Project at SMA, which was established in December 2002 with grants from NOAA Fisheries and the North Pacific Fishery Management Council. Her research is examining how NOAA Fisheries scientists are responding to the challenge of managing North Pacific living marine resources within a complex multi-statutory regulatory regime and during a time of increasing litigation pressure. She is conducting workshops, publishing research papers, training students, and developing procedures and informational tools that will help NOAA Fisheries and the NPFMC meet legal requirements in this area.

After graduating from the University of Washington School of Law in 1999, Beth served as a judicial clerk at the Washington State Court of Appeals, where she researched cases and drafted judicial opinions on a wide variety of subjects. She has also done various fisheries-related work projects for government, private companies, and non-profit organizations.
